Has anyone else noticed that Black Friday is quickly dying and becoming Black Thursday? As more and more stores announce their “Black Friday” hours, I can’t help but notice that Black Friday hours are starting Thursday evening and encroaching upon what should be time with the family during Thanksgiving dinner. As of now, the big electronic and toy retailers will be opening their doors at 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving night (before the kids are even in bed!). So what is a savvy shopper supposed to do? Miss out on the great deals or forgo the pumpkin pie and wait in line for a voucher to possibly purchase an item?
I say we eat a slice of pumpkin pie and sweet potato pie and skip out on Black Thursday shopping. I get that retailers want to capitalize on Christmas shopping and give us as many shopping hours as possible during the time between Thanksgiving and Christmas. I think, however, that we should be able to enjoy the holidays with our families without running out of the door to wait in line just to fight, scream, or kick our way to get $20.00 off the newest Wii game.
This year, I won’t be partaking in Black Thursday or Black Friday. I just chance that I may or may not get the lowest price of the season on an item. My strategy is much different from last year where I had a very detailed Black Friday strategy and game plan. At least my planning helped me to save some pesos on various items but not enough to miss out on family time during the season of thanks.
No thank you!
So what’s your holiday shopping game plan this year? Will you be shopping on Black Thursday, Friday, or Cyber Monday? Or will you skip all the hype and shop when you want?
