I love home decor and can spend hours browsing for dream home and decorating ideas on Pinterest. We just finished repainting and redecorating our living room and I sourced a lot of my ideas from my boards. We started first with custom window treatments, new paint, and a new couch. Now its time for the wall art. A lot of people use their living room for different purposes. These include for reading, family games, or simply for entertainment. Nonetheless, the type of art used in the living room sets the mood. For example, softer shades of color and simple wall décor set a calm mood.
Enhancing the space will be our wall art. Wall art types range from drawings, paintings, photographs, sculptures, wall decals and more. The best part, you don’t have to buy it all. You can make art or sculptures or find unique pieces of wood from places that sell reclaimed wood. Just the other day at the beach we found a huge branch that had drifted ashore. It had worn down beautifully and we plan to hang it somewhere. (More on that soon.)
Choosing The Right Wall Art For Your Living Room:
Art is personal. Deciding on the ideal art is con
sidered a personal matter. This is because the different forms and styles used in art stir up different emotional levels in different people. For this reason, take time in choosing your pieces. The choices can be based on your personal style and of course, your budget.
Get inspired. You can find different collections of curated art by various artists for ideas. Or, if sculptures are your ideal choice then opt for the type that brings style and personality to your living room. Sculptures can be made of stone, iron, clay or other materials.
Use Photography. When decorating the living room with photos, use different frames in similar materials or colors. For example, a variety of metallic frames becomes a piece of art on its own. Decide on a frame that complements the photo rather than competes with it. The photos can be placed on shelves or hang on walls.
Arranging Paintings or Photos. Paintings and photos should be hanged in places that do not have any distracting background. When hanging different pieces into an arrangement, the centerpiece is placed first and the other pieces are worked around it. If the pieces are small in size, they appear great when grouped to appear like a large piece of art. Paintings should not hang too high but should be placed at eye level. It is important to get a center point when hanging a piece of art in between windows or above a couch.
Don’t be Afraid of Wall paper. Wallpaper is coming back and looks great as an accent wall. Using wallpaper is almost like using art. It creates a unique element to any room but must be done right. I love accent walls with flat or textured metallic designs, especially in small spaces such as bathrooms. In a living room, I would probably do a ceiling or framed squares. Another commonly used method is placing wall paper on a chair rail but this is better for a dining room or study.
