Nights of Lights in St. Augustine
Nights of Lights was named by National Geographic as “One of the World’s 10 Best Holiday Displays.” With over 3 million lights displayed around historic downtown St. Augustine and its landmarks, Nights of Lights is a great way to start the holiday season.
Jacksonville Light Boat Parade
The Downtown Light Boat Parade is a fun, annual event featuring boats of all shapes and sizes decorated for the holidays. There’s not a bad view anywhere along the north or south banks of the St. John’s River. The boats travel from Metropolitan Park along the Northbank past The Jacksonville Landing to the Fuller Warren Bridge. You’ll see everything from elves rowing a boat to Santa with a live mariachi band wishing us Feliz Navidad. The evening ends with a fireworks show over the river. Bring chairs, a blanket, and get ready to enjoy the parade!
Jacksonville Community Nutcracker at Florida Theatre
Jacksonville is lucky to host several Nutcracker performances in our city. And since the holidays wouldn’t be complete without attending a show, you definitely want to mark your calendars and get your tickets. And for Jacksonville families, a great option for your family is at the Florida Theatre. The 28th Annual Community Nutcracker takes place on December 13 and 14 and includes performers from more than 200 children from Northeast Florida. Attending Jacksonville’s oldest Theatre is an excellent way to support arts in our community and give your child a cultural experience they will not forget. If you’re a mom of boys, this is a great performance for them as well!
Ice Skating at Jacksonville Ice & Sports Complex
I grew up in Cleveland, Ohio where ice skating was something we did as an activity in gym class and every weekend. For Florida kids, it’s like having a taste of New York City at Christmas time. We take the kids each winter and they always have a great time. Wear very warm clothes and bring gloves and a scarf. The best time to go is early during Saturday Night Meltdown which starts at 7 pm. You’ll get a discounted rate and it’s not too busy. If it will be your family’s first-time ice skating be prepared for a few falls. Watch a few videos on ice skating before you go. It will be well worth it as everyone is sure to have fun!
December to Remember (formerly Winter Wonderland) – Saint Augustine, Florida
It may not snow in Jacksonville but it does snow less than 40 miles south in St. Augustine’s December to Remember – holiday-themed winter adventure good for children of all ages. This year a few changes will be made to the wonderland eliminating the ice skating rink that was available to everyone. But you’ll family will still find hours of good fun. Besides a “real snow” fall each night, you’ll find Santa’s Village, a real horse, and carriage ride, a mini-polar express train, and so much more. Although the entrance is free, you do have to pay for many of the activities like the carriage rides.
Gingerbread House Extravaganza
Want some inspiration for decorating your gingerbread house this year? Then plan a trip to the Jacksonville Historical Society’s annual Gingerbread House Extravaganza. The event is one of Jacksonville’s favorite holiday traditions and takes place downtown across the street from Veterans Memorial Arena. The Extravaganza is the Historical Society’s holiday fundraiser featuring dozens of gingerbread houses made by local chefs and community members. Act fast as the Extravaganza begins November 30 through December 22.
