Celebrating A Blue Christmas

We’ll be celebrating a blue Christmas but ours is nothing but sad or lonely. I love hosting friends for holiday cocktails, this year we have three parties to plan. And I love making a big Christmas Eve dinner and listening to Christmas music while I cook and get the house ready.

A beautiful home for Christmas is something I always dreamed of as a child. I remember driving through neighborhoods with my parents and seeing beautiful homes with lights and wreaths hanging on doors and windows. We would go to holiday parties where the adults danced and the kids chased each other around the house.  I wanted to do the same for my home “when I grew up.”

I’ve never gone for traditional red and green trees, although  I do find them beautiful. For  years we had a pink tree. These last few years, we’ve been celebrating with blue and gold. I think the two look just beautiful together.

Each year I pick up a few special pieces. I go after the holidays, or during pre-holiday sales with coupons in hand. It’s taken time but the wait has well been worth it.

Here’s a look at our Blue Christmas:

1. Our Christmas mantel. This year I kept it pretty simple with our brown angels and Santa Clauses, dressed in creme and gold of course.

2. Our Blue Christmas tree. At 10 ft, she’s a beauty. I usually go for 12-15 feet but the husband was the voice of reason after having two trees topple over on us in the last two years. Home Depot doesn’t sell tree stands large enough, so I’m told….

3. And I especially love these green butterflies with blue jewels that I picked up 75% off after Christmas. I was scoping them for weeks.

 4. My special ornament I picked up in Cozumel, Mexico this year. Azul, of course. Celebrating A Blue Christmas

6. I found these holiday sweaters for wine bottles. Snagged up the blue so quick. Need to find more for this year.

7. And for fun, our front door is a collection of Christmas cards from years past. When my babies were babies. It’s fun to look back each year. We also collect snowmen for the front entrance.
