Recipe, flat white coffee that tastes like Starbucks version.
From cappuccino to vanilla latte to my all-time favorite, a flat white, I admit to being a coffee snob. I scoff at water downed versions of coffee and will go out of my way when traveling to enjoy a local cup of the good stuff at a highly rated coffee shop.

My love for coffee started at a young age. Some kids grow up drinking milk, we grew up on coffee. I had café con leche every morning as early as I can remember. This is not unusual growing up in a Latina and Haitian household. My mom had the Moka pot brewing like clockwork, at least two or three times a day.  I finally weaned myself from coffee in middle school until I realized in college, the black, hot drink was a God send. As a college student that studied late and partied even later, I needed the drink to keep me going. In law school, it kept me going around the clock during exams.

Today, I continue to enjoy and love a nice hot mug of espresso. I usually make my espresso using my favorite cuban coffee, Bustelo, and one of the two Moka pots my mom gifted me (because she wants to make sure I keep up the habit, of course). As much as I love my Moka pot, even it has limitations. I sometimes want a Starbucks but don’t want to spend $5-7 on coffee.

Rather than miss out on what seems like one of life’s simplest of luxuries, I finally decided it was time to upgrade my coffee machine to something that can brew those irresistible hot, iced, or speciality coffees. Although many good espresso machines cost upwards of $600, you can get a quality version for much, much less. To make my specialty espressos, I use my Ninja Coffee bar or my Nespresso Vertuo Plus (which comes with the best milk frother ever!).

My favorite coffee to make is a flat white. For anyone new to a flat white, think of it as a cappuccino with no foam, no hot milk,  and less frothy milk.  However, like a cappuccino, it has a shot of espresso. So a flat white is just a shot of espresso with frothy milk. And it’s delicious.

Recipe: Easy Flat White Coffee

Ingredients

  • 4 Tablespoons of your favorite espresso quality coffee. I love Bustelo.
  • 5 ounces of milk
  • dash of cinnamon (optional)

Prepare your espresso according to the speciality brew directions on your Ninja or Nespresso. Heat up  and froth milk until it’s thick and fluffy.

Scoop the froth on top of your espresso and sprinkle with cinnamon. Enjoy!!
