Gwyneth Paltrow Strikes Again Offending Working Moms

Gwyneth Paltrow offends working moms again telling us how much easier it is to have an office job than to be on set filming for 14 hours a day for a few months of the year. According to this newly single mom, to have “a regular job and be a mom is not as, of course there are challenges, but it’s not like being on set.” As Gwyneth shares, it’s much harder.

Just a few years ago, Gwyneth offered all working moms tips on her own blog, Goop. She shared how to balance work and life when she posted a “day in the life” of her “hectic life” and that of “other extremely busy working mothers [she] know[s].” Those busy friends included fashion designer Stella McCartney and socialite Juliet de Baubigny, a venture capitalist, that shared how she manages it all. Ms. de Baubigny starts her day early with cardio at 5:30 am in her in-home gym. And if it’s Friday, she plans ahead for the busy weekend by having her assistant prepare a “must call and must do list” with a run down of details on all the “outstanding calls/topics/decisions that [she] needs to make over the weekend. Despite Juliet’s extremely busy day, she makes sure she “[sits] down with [her] children—even if it’s for 15 minutes.”   She also has acupuncture at 9.30 pm at night. “It’s a wonderful end of the day.”

Wow, is that where I’ve been going wrong? Why didn’t I think to have someone hand me my must-do list prioritized with all the outstanding emails, phone calls, and personal greeting cards I should have sent after a lovely evening at my girlfriend’s private event? DUH!!

I suppose between being on set, getting your to-do list organized and your hair and make-up done for the next scene, Gwyneth and her “other extremely busy working mothers” were cleaning their 10,000+ square foot homes, making well balanced dinners and lunches, and don’t forget, scrubbing the peanut butter stains off their sons’ tighty whities before they tossed those bad boys in the wash. It’s a hard life these working women live, a hard life.

Well, Gwyneth, since were exchanging war stories and advice, here’s my tip from one working mom to another: Step down from your privileged cloud and refrain from offering practical advice to other busy working moms. And definitely don’t complain or compare the life you live with the rest of us.  Instead, have a slice of humble bread with your organic chai tea latte while the rest of us juggle work, motherhood, and all that goes along with it on a day-to-day basis 52 weeks of the year. The life you live is a glorious one, enjoy it! Oh, and here’s a recipe for a gluten free Cloud bread if you’d like it. Enjoy it during your break from work/acting these next several months.
