Hack: Best Trick to Cover Gray Hair Between Appointments

How do you cover those stubborn gray roots between salon visits without damaging your hair?

Let’s be real. Gray roots are not cute. One day, I will let all my hair go gray but at 43, I still have time. I started to get gray hairs in college. As I entered my 40s, I had a lot more gray hair, especially around my edges. I spend good money to color and highlight my hair and it seems like two weeks after I do so, bam, the grays start showing up. UGH!

It’s not that my color is fading or that my stylist isn’t using good products on my hair. My hair just grows somewhat fast so in two weeks I have grays popping up. By four weeks I have a full inch of fresh roots.

Thankfully I’m not all gray so when my hair grows in, I have a salt and pepper look to it. Until I’m ready to go all-in with the gray, I will be covering my roots to try and save me time and money between salon visits.

Man, I have tried so many different products to help me cover my roots in between hair appointments. Some of the hacks I have done include using mascara, powders, concealers, buying a semi-permanent color, and other various products that cost anywhere from $10 to $20 only to see no real difference. Then one day at Walmart I found this gem.

L’Oreal Paris Magic Root Cover Up Gray Concealer Spray is my absolute favorite. I buy it on Amazon but you can purchase at Target, CVS, etc. Between all the products I have tried, this is by far the best and it is pretty natural looking and not expensive. YAY!

I can apply it when my hair is curly or straight which is another reason why I love it. I don’t need to wash my hair and do any sort of process. So when I am ready to go out, spray and go and boom, “She Ready!”
