If you’re hosting a super sized game party, try this sweet and savory dish with some added latin flavor. Bacon wrapped dates stuffed with cheese is so delicious and easy to make. This bite sized snack is sure to be a fan favorite. This recipe is the perfect hors d’oeuvre for an after 6 cocktail party OR while hosting a tailgate or party for the big game. It’s just delicious. I  keep easy go-to recipes like this one in my party toolkit.  It allows me to treat my guests to delicious finger foods and doesn’t stress me out.

Bacon wrapped dates have been a guest favorite for years and my first go-to item. They are easy to make a day ahead of your party and can be popped in the oven 20 minutes before everyone arrives. Your house will smell so good and your guests will love them. Ideally they are served warm, not hot. The best part is they sit well during a party.

The Bacon: The quality of the bacon makes a huge difference in how this simple appetizer will turn out.  No matter what, don’t skimp on the bacon.  For this recipe, I used Farmland® bacon as it really packs in the flavor. The bacon is slowly smoked over real hardwoods to bring out the full flavor of the meat. Although I usually use pork bacon, you can also use turkey bacon.

The Cheese: You can use a variety of cheese for this recipe. I have made it with goat cheese, blue cheese, and even without cheese. It tastes good either way.  I’m using poblano peppers mixed with cream cheese today to give my recipe some heat.  If you don’t like the heat, use one of the other options mentioned above.

Directions:

  1. For peppers: Turn on your oven’s broiler. Wash pepper, place on cookie sheet, and roast for about 5 minutes turning once.
  2. Allow pepper to cool.  Run pepper under water and peel off the skin carefully.  Cut open and remove stems and seeds. Be very careful not to touch your eyes or mouth. Gloves are recommended.
  3. Chop the pepper and add to the cream cheese, blending carefully.
  4. Cut the Farmland® bacon slices in half.
  5. Take your pitted date, dab the cheese on it, then wrap one half bacon slice around the date. Secure with a toothpick. Repeat.
  6. Optional, dip in brown sugar for some extra sweetness!
  7. Place bacon wrapped dates on aluminum foil. Bake at 450 for 10 minutes watching carefully that bacon doesn’t burn.
