Clean Skincare Products for Women in Their 40s

If you’re in your 40s, you probably noticed some recent changes to your skin. Is it drier than usual? Are you experiencing some breakouts along your chin? Or what about wrinkles and fine lines? You might feel overwhelmed by the plethora of skincare products on the market for women in their 40s. Or maybe, you don’t know which skincare products suit you best as a woman of color. In this article, I’m sharing my favorite skincare products to achieve “healthy-looking skin” and glow many of us go after at this age.

As a woman of color, you may have some unique issues to deal with. Our darker skin tone is due to the excess distribution of melanin in our bodies and it gives us a unique skin tone that requires different care. Also, darker skin tones are more prone to dark spots, hyperpigmentation, and other common skin problems that people with fairer skin can also have, like acne.

The skincare regimens that you follow in your 20s won’t be as effective as the routines that you do in your 40s. The differences have something to do with the production of collagen that reduces as we age. Although fighting off wrinkles is big at this age, for some of us, I’m here to encourage you. Do not to be discouraged as the natural aging process takes place. Wrinkles are inevitable. The sooner you start taking care of your skin, the better chance you have of fighting them off. Focus more on feeling comfortable and confident at any age than fighting off every fine line.  Age and wisdom is a magical combination that can truly make you stand out and radiate.

Before I go into my favorite products, let’s talk about diet. Yes, there are some foods you can eat to help fight off the aging process and feel healthier.  So even with the best products, you have to consider your diet too.

Lastly, when it comes to choosing products for my skincare, I am very selective and opt for clean products.  Although darker skin tends to produce more natural oils and the melanin it contains can shield our skin from harmful, ultra-violet rays, it can be more sensitive to some ingredients often found in skincare products and that can lead to hyperpigmentation. Therefore, before I purchase any products, I look up the products in an app called “Think Dirty.” The app scores the ingredients based on how clean or toxic they are.  Our skin is our largest organ and I don’t want to expose myself to any chemicals that are harmful or known to cause cancer.

As a busy mom, I want my routine to be easy to follow and extra-nourishing and the below products are both.

Note: these products are ideal for combination and normal skin tones for women in their 40s.

Derma-E Fragrance-Free Anti-Wrinkle Treatment Oil

If you are allergic to scented products, Derma-E Fragrance-Free Anti-Wrinkle Treatment Oil is for you. Say goodbye to wrinkles and dull skin! This gentle formula is made up of 100% vegan ingredients to eliminate the impurities of the skin. I use this after cleansing my skin in the morning and before bedtime. Its antioxidant properties can remove the dead layer of the skin, giving it and fresher and brighter look. So, if you want to get rid of wrinkles, this is truly a must-try!

Derma E Essentials Radiance Toner

I also love to include the Derma E Essentials Radiance Toner. It is one of the best products to use as a base. It gets rid of those dead cells without using harsh ingredients. I highly recommend this eco-friendly skincare solution that can give your skin a luminous appearance it deserves. Apply two drops of toner on a cotton pad and wipe gently all over your face and neck for even skin tone. Best for use in the morning and evening.

MyChelle Dermaceuticals Supreme Polypeptide Unscented- Nutrient-Rich Moisturizer

For a firmer and wrinkle-free or reduced skin, this peptide-rich recontouring cream is your skin’s gentle solution. I love  MyChelle because it’s not just a moisturizer but it also works as a recontouring cream to give your skin a youthful appearance. And take note, it does not contain any artificial fragrances or artificial color that can interfere with your skin’s regimen.

Andalou Naturals Face Cream Probiotic C Renewal

If your face is often exposed to the sun’s harmful rays, add Andalou Naturals to your must-have list. Your skin needs extra protection against the ultra-violet rays. Packed with vitamin C, probiotic microflora, and other organic ingredients, expect great results such as a brighter complexion. What I like most about this product is that as a Florida resident, sun exposure is hard to avoid and this product is ideal for sensitive skin. It doesn’t cause irritation even when applied under my makeup.

Fresh Black Tea Age-Delay Eye Concentrate

Did you know that tea is not only a perfect weight loss solution and best to reduce heart diseases but it can also be a great addition to your skincare regimen? Yes, you read it right! Black-tea has natural antioxidants that can protect your skin against harmful radicals that contributes to skin aging. And what makes this age-delay eye concentrate more lovable? It tingles when you use it. You can almost feel it working. Its thick cream absorbs quickly without leaving any greasy residue on your skin. My only complaint about this product is that it’s a bit more expensive than others listed, however, when I have some extra funds, I usually splurge on this. It’s well worth it!

Mychelle Dermaceuticals Ultra Hyaluronic Eye Gel

If you worry about wrinkles around your eyes but also want something budget-friendly, this is your option.  Among its effective ingredients that hydrate your skin are caffeine, hyaluronic acid, and Persian Silk Tree extract. Combining these essential components helps eliminate the dark circles that make you look stressed and tired. Just apply a small amount of this cooling gel around the contours of your eyes in the morning and before bedtime.
