Can you guys believe it’s May already? Where did the year go? This means travel season has begun and I’m sourcing getaway ideas near Jacksonville so we can explore our nearby states and vacation hot spots. We usually plan a one week vacation somewhere with several extended weekend getaways in between. Since we’re usually traveling by car, I am always on the hunt for weekend getaways near Jacksonville. I recently discovered a new gem, pretty much in my own backyard –Daufuskie Island, SC. Daufuskie Island is a little beach town full of southern charm and family friendly activities. The little island draws families from across Northeast Florida and the Carolinas to its beaches with its kid-friendly activities and safe community.
Weekend Getaway Tips for Daufuskie Island, SC
Getting to Daufuskie Island: You don’t have to travel far from Jacksonville to find yourself on one of the most incredible islands in the US! It is located between Savannah, Georgia and Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. The island is about 2.75 miles offshore and accessible by ferry.

Transportation on the Island: Say “goodbye” to rush hour and “hello” to happy hour while on Daufuskie Island. You won’t find any traffic on this island as golf carts are the main method of transportation. Not that I would recommend drinking and golf-carting but this makes happy hour on Daufuskie more like happy day-no?
