Moms Matter 2012: New Mom Bloggers Join The Stir

Moms Matter 2012

I was really honored a few weeks ago when I received an email from one of CafeMom’s editors. She wanted to know if I was interested in writing about the upcoming election and issues that affect moms on CafeMom’s blog site, the Stir.  I jumped at the opportunity with excitement. I am a huge fan of CafeMom and the Stir.  Never once had I imagined I would have an opportunity to work on such an important initiative, Moms Matter 2012.  About Moms Matter: Moms Matter 2012 is a nonpartisan platform organized by CafeMom. [Its] mission is to unite moms, regardless of political affiliation, in...

Fun Ideas for Keeping Kids Busy During Christmas Break

Fun Ideas for Keeping Kids Busy During Christmas Break

Well Moms, Christmas vacation is just around the corner.  Do you have plans for your kids?  As usual, our school begins the holiday vacation with an entire week of half-days the week before school is out for almost three weeks.  Really, that’s annoying.  I have work to do. Doesn’t anyone else? Plus, I haven’t purchased one single Christmas gift yet; Santa’s sleigh is currently empty.   I’m not going to complain about the fact that for several weeks, I’ll have three kids looking at me for fun things to do during Christmas break.  Instead, I’m going to focus on all the great quality time...

Giuliana Rancic Shows Strength of a Woman

Giuliana Rancic Shows Strength of a Woman

On the Today Show yesterday, the  E! News co-anchor Guiliana Rancic announced that she will be undergoing a double mastectomy next week.  In October of this year, Guiliana shared the news that she was diagnosed with early stages of breast cancer. The news came as a surprise to many of her fans and for some the announcement was a reality check.  Many tweeted that they were going to start doing their monthly breast exams, other offered their support and prayers. Since the news broke, I’ve watched Guiliana in several interviews and she never looks scared although you know she is.    You would never be able to tell how...

Momsters: Holiday Edition

Momsters: Holiday Edition

If you’ve seen the movie, I Don’t Know How She Does It, staring Sarah Jessica Parker, then you may remember the Momster characters featured in the scene below. They were the two, Type-A have it all together, do it all moms. Even if you haven’t watched the movie, I’m sure you know one of these moms. She’s the first parent at school ready to drop off her kids with full make-up, perfect hair, and a perfectly coordinated and ironed outfit. If she’s headed to the gym, substitute casual wear for perfect gym outfit with gym shoes to match the headband...

Easy Pumpkin Pancakes

How to Make Pumpkin Pancakes

With Thanksgiving behind us, you may have a cup or two of pumpkin puree left over in the fridge and overnight guests still in town.   Impress your guests and your family by using this recipe to make Easy Pumpkin Pancakes.  One of my all time favorites. All you need is a few extra minutes and a cup of pumpkin puree to make pumpkin pancakes from scratch.  If you prefer to make them semi-homemade, add between 3/4 cup to a full cup of pumpkin puree, tablespoon of sugar, a teaspoon each of cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger to your pre-made pancake mix,...

Half-Marathon Is Here: It’s Go Time!

Half-Marathon Is Here: It’s Go Time!

In less than 24 hours my feet will be pounding away on the pavement in Savannah, Georgia heading towards the finish line 13.1 miles away. Yep, tomorrow is the Rock ‘n’ Roll Savannah Half Marathon.  I’m excited, anxious, and relaxed, all at the same time. Excited!! As I mentioned before, I’ll be running with a group of about 18 bloggers in the Race & Relax event hosted by Run Wifey Run.  Tonight we will be heading to the race expo and getting VIP treatment by some of the sponsors for the event including the American Cancer Society DetermiNation Program (ASC).  The expos...

Ladies Who Lunch: Michelle Obama & Me Part II

Ladies Who Lunch: Michelle Obama & Me Part II

It’s been a whirlwind for me since last week!  I’ve been so busy that I haven’t even had a chance to post my recap of the First Lady’s visit or post the pictures! So here goes all of the loveliness of Mrs. Obama’s visit in part two of Ladies Who Lunch: Michelle Obama & Me. The Wardrobe: I put on one of my favorite dresses perfect for a visit with the First Lady, or Oprah.  It is a pleated navy blue dress with gray polka dots from Jones New York dress line.  I panicked a bit when I put the dress on because the dress was too...

Running Gives You Wings

Running Gives You Wings

I am now in the final stretch of half-marathon number two with only 19 days left to train– Yikes! This training is going much better than the last time around.   I stuck to my decision to train more outside and I think that has helped with distance and stamina.  Running in the wind on different terrains definitely helps you prepare for race day.  I even had a chance to train in the rain last week.  Like any typical Florida day, it went from sunny to cloudy in a matter of minutes.  I found myself a few miles away from home and...

Monday Motiviation- Where do you find balance?

The other day I had a female colleague tell me that I always seemed so calm even when she knew I was busy.  She stopped by my office for tips on time-management and advice on what she could do to lower her stress levels.  Coincidently, another colleague had recently told me almost the same thing. While I was humbled by their statements (Really, me?), I assured them both that I was not always calm or organized. As for my colleague wanting help, I shared with her my constant struggle to manage my stress and find balance in my life.   If I am not proactive about managing my stress, I feel it physically and mentally. ...

Career Day- It’s A Wrap!

Career Day- It’s A Wrap!

The other day, I was preparing for one of my most important talks yet- an explanation to all kindergarten students on what I do for a living in hopes to inspire them to accomplish great things in their lives.  Yep, the career day talk. This was going to be interesting.  For starters, I have three totally different resumes. One for my legal work, another for my social media/writing experience, and finally there’s my modeling resume.  Some days I’m in front of the classroom, other days I may be on set getting fake eyelashes put on. For my presentation, I had...
